Let's jump right into today's news...

Remember Amy Winehouse?

The drugged up singer that just couldn't get her life together even though she had access to treatment, money, and a possible major career?

Yeah, you can tell that even though I respect the dead, I have no respect for someone that's been given everything life has to offer and then decides to trash it.

Anyway, her father is claiming it was withdrawals that did her in and not an overdose.

Tragic singer Amy Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning after a huge binge drinking session rendered her unconscious, an inquest has revealed.

A coroner ruled that the 27-year-old's death came about as a result of misadventure after she was found in her bed in her Camden apartment in July.

This comes after Winehouse's father Mitch said he believed his daughter, who had previously struggled with drug and alcohol dependence, died from withdrawals.

On the evening of her death the Rehab singer had consumed five-times the legal drink-drive limit, despite warnings from medical professionals about the consequences.

A statement from the Winehouse family said: "We understand there was alcohol in her system when she passed away - it is likely a build-up of alcohol over a number of days. "

Earlier this week, MusicNews. com reported 29 paintings of the singer created by Sam Shaker are set to go on sale to raise money for the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

I don't know what to make of this next story.

I'm a big fan of privacy, but it seems like the VA isn't such a fan...

Maybe I'm wrong on this (I hope I am).

WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced Wednesday that it is revising a rule that aims to make it easier to share records related to the treatment for drug abuse, alcoholism or alcohol abuse, HIV and sickle cell anemia with the Department of Defense (DoD).

Officials said this update to the regulation removes the restrictive VA provision and enhances VA's collaboration with DoD so Veterans can receive better and more timely treatment, services and benefits.

This is the 3rd story over just as many weeks with concerns from local residents about a new treatment center opening.

I'm in agreement with the communities on this one ESPECIALLY since awesome in-home care exists like the Last Call Program.

But none-the-less, treatment centers keep getting money, so will continue to open.

CONCERNS have been raised that used needles may start appearing near the site of a new drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic.

According to Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board, the work of transforming Caernarfon’s old Bron Seiont surgery took longer than expected, but the doors of Bron Castell, as it’s now known, are now open.
However, the move has come under fire by a county councillor who says some in the area are thinking of moving away due to the development.

Can alcohol bracelets REALLY curb future DUI's?

I sure hope so (I still think in-house treatment options are the way to go and will eliminate the need for these bracelets altogether).

RIVERSIDE, Calif., Oct. 26, 2011 -- /PRNewswire/ -- A newly released study of DUI offender data in Riverside County shows that Hard Core Drunk Drivers (HCDDs) who were monitored with 24/7 alcohol bracelets saw a re-arrest rate of nearly one-half the state average for repeat DUI offenders.

Conducted by LCA, a San Francisco-based private criminal justice organization, the study looked at California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) data for all Riverside County offenders who were court-ordered to a CAM (Continuous Alcohol Monitoring) program using SCRAMx (Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor) equipment. The study tracked DMV data for 22 months following release from the program. The rate of any DUI incidents during this 22-month period was only 6.5% - 41% lower than the state average for repeat DUI offenders, according to the 2011 California DMV's annual report to the state legislature. According to the DMV, the average re-arrest rate for repeat DUI offenders for the two years after a prior conviction was at least 11%, depending on the number of previous offenses (the higher the number of previous DUIs, the higher the rate of re-offense).

Whether or not we want to admit it, we all like a little gossip here and here.

State Rep. Joseph Brennan, arrested with a blood-alcohol level nearly four times the legal limit for driving, was accepted Wednesday into a first-offenders program that will allow him to avoid a criminal record.

Brennan, a 47-year-old Democrat, must perform 25 hours of community service, continue alcohol treatment and complete six months of probation in order to have his record expunged. Also, his driver's license was suspended for 60 days.

Brennan's entry into the state's Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program was approved by Northampton County Judge Leonard Zito among dozens of others at the courthouse in Easton.
